Articles to revisit
Which faded articles are worth updating, and which to leave.
Articles to revisit lists older articles that brought Discover traffic for weeks and have since faded. The topic already worked for your readers, so an update is often worth more than a new article.
Which articles are listed
An article is listed when all of these are true:
- It earned at least 50 Discover clicks in its best 4 weeks, before the last 8 weeks.
- It had Discover clicks in 6 or more weeks, so it wasn't a one-off news hit.
- Its last 4 weeks brought under 30% of its best 4 weeks, and the 4 weeks before that under half.
News stories that did well for a few days and then stopped aren't listed: that's the normal life of a news story. The page tells you how many were left out. The 15 articles that lost the most are shown, each with its best 4 weeks, its last 4 weeks and a small chart of its weekly Discover clicks for the last half year.
Check the pages
Press Check the top 5 pages and we open each one like a browser would. For each article we look for:
- When it was last updated, from the dates the page itself states. Over 6 months ago is flagged.
- An earlier year in the headline, such as "best phones 2024".
- The
max-image-preview:largesetting, which Discover needs for big images. - A main image at least 1,200 pixels wide that isn't a logo, and clickbait patterns in the headline.
If any of these turn up, the article is marked Worth updating with the reasons. If none do, it says No obvious problem: the article may simply have run its course, and it's worth updating only if the topic is being searched for again.
The check reads only public pages on your own site, and keeps the results for 90 days.
