Free tool
Google Discover and News traffic checker
One free check a month. We read your own Search Console, tell you which of the four Discover situations your site is in, how Google News treats you, and what to fix first.
Run your free check
Sign in with Google, then connect Search Console with read-only access. It takes about a minute.
What the checker looks at
- Discover: clicks, impressions and click-through rate for the last 28 days, compared with the 28 days before and with your own earlier weeks.
- Google News: whether news.google.com and the Google News app show your articles, and whether people click.
- Search: clicks, impressions and click-through rate, so you can see whether a drop is Discover-only or site-wide.
- Your articles: on 3 of your most-shown pages, the large image setting, image size and headline that Google's Discover guidance names, and whether a named author is shown, which Google News asks for.
The four situations
- A. Not in Discover yet
- B. Shown, but not clicked
- C. Getting traffic
- D. Up and down
Questions
Is the Discover checker really free?
Yes. Sign in with Google, connect Search Console with read-only access, and run one full check a month on one site. No card needed.
Where do the numbers come from?
Straight from your own Google Search Console: Discover, Google News and Search, final data only, with the same dates Search Console uses (Pacific Time). Every report shows its date range so you can check the totals in Search Console yourself.
Why does my site show no Discover impressions?
Either Discover hasn't shown your pages in the last 28 days, or the numbers are below the minimum Google needs before it reports Discover at all. The check tells you which things on your pages usually make the difference.
What is the difference with the paid report?
The paid plans keep 16 months of your figures, update them every day, list your top, rising and dropped pages week by week, add Analytics engagement, and check your articles whenever you like.
